3/4c. water
1 (6oz) can tomato paste
1/2c apple cider vinegar
1/4c Worcestershire
1T Dijon mustard
1T cocoa powder
2t fresh ground black pepper
1t salt
1t smoked paprika
1t cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2t garlic powder
1/2 - 3/4c maple syrup (with 3/4c., it's sweet but you get the bourbon barrel maple flavor)
mix everything together in a sauce pan on medium heat. bring to a simmer for a few minutes. store in a glass container for up to two weeks. it will thicken as it cools. active time 10m. total time 10m.
